Are there any hidden costs?
AR Krav Maga members must purchase an annual Krav Maga Global (KMG) Student License, costing just £25 per year. It provides you with the following:
- Membership to KMG UK
- Public Liability Insurance for training within AR Krav Maga
- Personal Accident cover for the unlikely event of personal injury
- An individual identified number to move between KMG clubs worldwide.
- Anyone with a valid (KMG) Student License visiting our club will be welcome to train with us.
What should I wear?
For your initial classes a tracksuit or loose comfortable clothing and clean indoor trainers are ideal. If you have a groin guard or gum shield bring them along. A month into your membership you will be expected to adopt the club KMG uniform.
What equipment do I need?
Once you have joined the club and received your FREE essentials pack you will have all the equipment and club uniform you will need. All other training equipment is provided but students often purchase their own individual items as they progress, especially if they want to practice at home. A groin guard and gum shield is essential for safe and realistic training. All additional equipment and clothing is available to purchase through the KMG UK Shop. Do I need to be fit?
Krav Maga was developed for men, women and children of all ages and abilities. We do not expect any of our students to have a high degree of physical fitness. We scale the intensity of the class up or down depending on the fitness level of our students. So no, you do not need to be fit. As long as you are prepared to give it a go, you will be fine.
Is Krav Maga training suitable for women?
Yes. Women do Krav Maga worldwide and are very welcome in all our classes. We also have a women only class.
Are there gradings or tests?
Yes there is. KMG award students ‘ranks’ represented by patches that indicate their current level. Our curriculum is structured into five Practitioner levels, five Graduate levels and five Expert levels. They are not mandatory; however should you wish to grade, they would definitely aid your progression. Grading’s are really just a measure of what you have learned. Unlike martial arts, there are no national competitions so at grading’s you will have the opportunity to demonstrate what you have learned with a partner at the same level. Achieving a grading tells us you have consolidated what you need to know and are ready to learn the next level of techniques. Do not worry about gradings.
Are the people friendly?
Our Krav Maga classes are friendly and informal. Instructors use their first name. The focus is on learning the techniques and their applications. We do not accommodate egos and have zero tolerance for bad behaviour.
How long will it take to learn?
Krav Maga is built on natural reactions, minimum effort with maximum success. It is therefore quick to pick up and easy to learn. You will learn useful, practical things from lesson one, and the more often you train the more you will learn.
Is it safe?
Similar to a martial art or contact sport, there is the possibility of injury. However, specifically designed warm-ups are always conducted to reduce this risk. We very much encourage and expect our students to respect their partner’s bodies when training. AR Krav Maga teaching is firmly based on the principles of Safe System of Training that being safe place, safe person, safe equipment and safe practice. However, should there be an injury your instructors are qualified first aiders.
