I started at AR Krav Maga in 2018. I had wanted to learn self defense for a long time, but never knew which one to commit to out of the seemingly hundreds that are available. I chose Krav Maga for its practicality for modern threats and the experience of the chief instructor, Tony. I wanted to learn to not only defend myself but also my loved ones and Krav Maga is perfect for that. That's why I continue to train to this day.
When I began I was really pushing myself out of my comfort zone. I went alone for my first class and immediately made some new friends within the club. Everyone is so welcoming and friendly. It really makes for a nice environment to learn in. No egos get in the way, no one is looking down on anyone. Everyone brings a modest and respectful mindset to training. I noticed that from day one.
Since I started four years ago, I've become so much more confident in general day to day life. I never feel uncomfortable in public or in crowds and I can talk to just about anyone. I must in part thank AR Krav Maga as my training has definitely contributed towards building my confidence over the years.
Krav has given me the knowledge and the confidence to handle situations in the best way possible. Whether it be spotting a potentially dangerous situation before it even happens, or talking someone down to avoid a fight, or (if it comes to it) defending myself and others against multiple attackers. I feel well equipped to handle these situations, yet humbled every time I train as I always realise there is so much more for me to learn.
Aside from the massive positive changes to the way I hold myself, I've also made some incredible friends for life. I'm very thankful for the friendships I have, that are entirely built off of meeting up a couple of times a week to fight each other. Those friendships are built on trust and respect.
I continue to train at AR Krav Maga because I think it's some of the best practical self defense training available to me. For the future I plan to continue training as regularly as I can and learn as many skills as I can, so if the time ever comes when I need to defend myself or my loved ones; I can do so effectively.
